What is a Celebrant?
A Celebrant is a person who is trained and certified to meet the needs of families during their time of loss. They serve by providing a funeral service or tribute that is personalized to reflect the personality and life-style of the deceased.
The Funeral Celebrant training is a CEU program accredited through the University of Oklahoma. Funeral Celebrants are trained through the In-Sight Institute, and they are trained by Doug Manning and his staff. Doug was a Baptist Minister for 37 years, and became involved in grief support work in the early 70's. He has since written over 35 books on the subject, and his institute has trained over 800 people across North America to be Celebrants.
Why Celebrants?
A funeral is a valuable source for healing in the lives of a grieving family.
A personalized service that focuses on the life of the person needs to be available to both religious and non-religious families.
More than half of the families in any community are not active in a church. They need a person who is trained to conduct a meaningful funeral service or tribute that reflects the deceased's beliefs and life-style.
Funeral homes are now seeing the need to have someone available, either on staff or on contract, who is qualified to serve the families who do not wish to use a clergy person.
As the needs of the community change, the Eaton Funeral Home is changing along with them by offering several different types of funerals to suit the needs of the individual families we serve. If a Celebrant is right for you, we can contact a Celebrant to work with you. If you simply want some ideas that a Celebrant can offer, we have a funeral director on staff who is a trained Celebrant who would be more than happy to assist you in putting together a meaningful funeral service for your loved one.
