A Life that Touched Many

It is always fascinating to me when things happen “by coincidence” because I think that in many instances it is no coincidence, but rather an event that occurs through unseen forces and energies.

Encountering Peter’s obituary today was a coincidence.

Or was it.

I was asked by John Marshall of CKNX to send him photos and memories of my days at CKNX.

So I have spent much of the morning rummaging through the collection of “stuff” my wife Joanne tells me I must organize so that it is meaningful to more than just myself, or dispose of it.

Through all f this I ventured n to the CKNX website. At my age we feel compelled to check the obituaries.  There I discovered that Peter has left us.

It is a long time since I’ve seen Peter.  He was part of my life during my days in Wingham and CKNX.

I introduced him on occasions when he was a guest vocalist at local events.

And I remember him in the musicals at the Hanover Little Theatre. What I don’t remember is whether I just attended the performance, or if through the Wingham Community Players we had a hand in that production.

And of course Peter’s very successful “Conway Furniture” indirectly helped support me while I lived in Wingham.

As CKNX celebrates it’s 90th anniversary it is worthwhile to reflect on the role the sponsors played in the success of the station.  And Peter and Conway were a big part of it.

As I think of Peter and our brief encounters through his lifetime it brings to mind the line form the Christmas Movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” when Clarence the Angel (Second Class) tells George Bailey

Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives, and when he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?

Peter’s life touched mine all those years ago. and I know for all of us, and especially for those of you close to him it leaves an awful hole.
