Life Story for Marie Askin (Kocher)

Marie Askin ~ at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday, April 27, 2009, Mrs. Marie Annie (Kocher) Askin of Listowel, in her 90th year.

Wife of the late Roy Askin, the love of her life whom she married in January of 1939.

Mother of Emma Askin of Listowel, Bob and Marion Askin of Mississauga, Jim Askin and Linda Seubold of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Linda and Kevin Sholdice of Listowel.

Grandmother of Debra Askin and her friend Tim of Guelph, Jill and Campbell Johnston of Brantford, Tim Askin of Westlake, Ohio, Andrew and Amy Askin of San Diego, California, Kim Sholdice of Stratford, Kevin Sholdice Jr. of Wroxeter, and Kyle and Becky Sholdice of Listowel.

Great-grandmother of Nathan, Natasha, Olivia, Dylan, Jennifer, and Cheyenne.

Also survived by her sister-in-law Celena Kocher of R.R. 4, Listowel.

Predeceased by her brothers Urban Kocher and Alban Kocher, and her sisters Margaret Schwartz and Dorothy Prentice.

Roy and Marie were married in Hesson, and farmed in the Carthage and Fordwich areas for a number of years until they moved to Listowel in May 1958.

Marie was a very devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She was a supportive Sister and a special friend of many.

She enjoyed being a member of St. Joseph's Parish Family and the C.W.L. Her deep Faith in God helped her through many of life's challenges.

Marie took pride in her work as a kitchen staff at Listowel Memorial Hospital where she was able to be a part of caring for others, something she did all of her life. She enjoyed a good game of cards, old time music and visits with family and friends. She loved to work in her flower beds and vegetable gardens.

Her thoughts were always of others, putting their needs before her own.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Wednesday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. with parish prayers at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Listowel on Thursday, April 30th at 11:00 a.m. Father John Johnson officiating.

Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to St. Joseph's Parish Hall Building Fund would be appreciated.
