Bob Long ~ At Listowel Memorial Hospital on Sunday, February 18, 2018, Mr. Robert Alexander Long of Listowel, in his 79th year.
Husband of the late Marion (Johnston) Long. Father of Cyndi and Jeff Higgins of Kitchener, Dwayne Long of Listowel, and Joanne Long and her fiancé Will Herrfort of Elmira. Grandfather of Justin Daniel 'J.D.', Alex, Tyler, and Benjamin. Brother of Harold Long of Holstein, Dorothy Aitken of Mount Forest, Bev and Jean Long of Sudbury, Mona Bell of Mount Forest, Laverne Long, and Carl Long, both of Palmerston, and Paul and Carol Long of Gowanstown. Son-in-law of Fern Johnston, and brother-in-law of Miriam Long of Mount Forest, Eleanor and Jim Edwards of Southampton, Ray and Connie Johnston of Monkton, Murray Johnston of Elora, Ken and Peggy Johnston of Atwood, and Joan Johnston of Kitchener.
Predeceased by his brothers Delbert, Jack, Wally, and Ronnie.
Bob excelled at sports and during the early 50's he pitched fastball for the Palmerston Intermediates winning the Grand River Softball League Championship. Bob was also the goaltender for the Palmerston Lions in the 1957-58 year in which the team won the WOAA Grand Championship. Bob shutout the Phillipsburg Chevies in the final game leading Palmerston to win the championship.
A huge thank you to Dr. Hayward and the nurses on 1st floor at Listowel Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion.
Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 21st at 11:00 a.m. There is nothing Bob loved more than to have a beer and tell stories, so immediately following the service everyone is invited back to the Community Room at the new Listowel arena for a further celebration of Bob’s life.
Spring interment will take place in Donegal Cemetery.
Memorial donations to Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation, Kidney Foundation, or Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
