Obituary for Gwen Perkin

Gwen Perkin ~ Peacefully, surrounded by her family, Gwen (Latsch) Perkin of Listowel passed away at Palmerston Hospital on Sunday, January 20, 2019, in her 85th year.

Predeceased by her husband Harold Perkin, with whom she shared almost 50 years of marriage, and by her youngest son, Mark. Loving mum of Debra and Steve Brown of Sherkston, and Kim and Susan Perkin of Belwood, fondly remembered by her daughter-in-law Jennifer Perkin of Gowanstown.

Grandmother of Andrew and Jacky Perkin of Hong Kong, Carlene Perkin, Zachary Brown, Naomi Brown, Stephanie Perkin, Geneva Perkin, and Claire Perkin. Missed also by her dog Molly.

Sister of Karen and Ken Smith of Port Stanley, and sister-in-law of Gertrude Davidson, and Leon and Helen Perkin, all of Listowel, and survived also by her numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her brother Bryan Latsch, sister-in-law Heather Latsch, and brothers-in-law Richard Thorneycroft and Ken Davidson.

Gwen was born in Kitchener, and grew up in various places around southwestern Ontario, including Port Elgin, Long Branch, and Palmerston, before settling with Harold in Listowel. She served as an obstetrical nurse at Listowel Memorial Hospital for many years where she was fondly known as 'the General'. She helped deliver many of the current residents of Listowel and surrounding area. Gwen spent many summers at Driftwood Beach Park and made many lasting friendships before selling her trailer last year. She enjoyed many other activities including crafts, sewing, knitting, and travelling, but her favourite activity was spoiling her grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Calvary United Church, Listowel on Friday, January 25th at 11:00 a.m. Rev. George Russell officiating.

Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
