Doug Taylor ~ At The Village LTC, Hanover, after a lengthy illness, on Thursday, February 4, 2016, Mr. Douglas William Taylor of Hanover and formerly of Southampton, in his 84th year.

Doug is survived by Lillie (Wilson) Taylor, his beloved wife of 56 years, and by her sisters, Eva Ottmann of Brantford, and Iris Wilson of Guelph, and Iris’ daughter Madelaine.

Remembered also by his brother Jack Taylor of Toronto, and best friends John and Shirley Gade of Shelburne, and George Gade of Harriston.

Doug was predeceased by his stillborn son Thomas Roy Taylor in 1959, as well as his parents and three siblings, Doris Davidson, Gladys Nelson, and Ernest Taylor.

Douglas William Taylor was born on October 12, 1932 in Toronto, Ontario to Jesse William Taylor (born in 1897 in Alabama, USA) and Susanah Coveyduck (born in 1907 in Newfoundland, Canada).

Doug and his wife Lillie met at a square dance in Guelph at the YMCA and they were married on February 7, 1959 at Knox Presbyterian Church in Guelph.

Doug and Lillie resided in Guelph for many years before they moved to Southampton in 1976 with Snowball, their American Eskimo dog. ‘Pr’ Royal Duchess, their second American Eskimo dog, joined Doug and Lillie in Southampton in 1988.

Doug loved the outdoors – he got his pilot’s licence and enjoyed flying, snowmobiling, and fishing. He also liked square dancing and watching TV, especially mysteries.

In June 2014 Doug and Lillie moved to Pinecrest Manor LTC in Lucknow, and in April 2015 they moved to The Village LTC in Hanover.

Private family arrangements have been entrusted to the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, with interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
