Mrs. Edith Esther Bender of Listowel, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday, March 27, 2017, in her 92nd year.

Beloved wife of Lyle Bender. Dear mother of Sharon and John Ellison of Lebanon, Ontario, and Marilyn and Sean Hawley of Haliburton, Ontario.

Grandmother (and great-grandmother) of David and Betty Ellison (Kaitlyn, Carson, Colton, Kenzie, and Kolby), Andrew 'Chuck' and Lisa Ellison (Ashton and Blake), Michael and Kayleen Ellison (Reese, Paige, and Emmett), Amanda Ellison, Nicole and Alex Hamilton (Cole), Wade Hawley, Lindsay Hawley, Hillary Hawley and fiancé Steven Bridge, Jillian Hawley, Victoria Hawley, and Rory Hawley.

Sister of Janet 'Jean' Holliday, and Phyllis and Eldon Lehman, all of Guelph, and sister-in-law of Bill and Hazel Sullivan of Oakville.

Predeceased by her granddaughter Carolle, sister Audrey Sullivan, brother William Benson and his wife Julia, brother-in-law Art Holliday, and by 3 sons and 2 grandsons, all in infancy.

Edith was born in Toronto on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1925 to William James and Edith (Glenfield) Benson. She went to Runnymead School and then worked for Bell Canada as a phone operator. She was also a numerator and statistician in Oakville. Edith and Lyle were married on June 26, 1948 at People's Church on Bloor St. E., Toronto. She loved to sing in the choirs at People's Church, Calvary Baptist Church, and Erindale Bible Chapel; read, cook, and enjoyed family get-togethers. In 1974, they moved to Listowel where she and Lyle attended Wallenstein Bible Chapel, Listowel Bible Chapel, and Gorrie Bible Fellowship.

Many thanks to the kind people at Caressant Care, Listowel, and others who helped make life easier.

Visitation will be held at Listowel Mennonite Church on Thursday, March 30th from 1:00 until the time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Gary Goodkey officiating.

Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
