Obituary for Norma Nyiri

Norma Nyiri
Norma Nyiri ~ With her daughter at her side, Norma Nyiri died in her home in Wroxeter, on Sunday, June 18, 2017. Mrs. Norma Bernadette (O'Keeffe) Nyiri, was in her 80th year.

Beloved wife of the late Nicolas Nyiri (2016). Dear mother of Alyson Nyiri and Bill Cullen of Wroxeter, and Andre Nyiri of Kitchener. Sister of Muriel Hardy of England, and Irene O'Connell, Derry O'Connell, Barry and Elizabeth O'Connell, and Kevin and Kate O'Connell, all of Ireland.

Predeceased by her mother and step-father Ellen (Minihan) and Lawrence O'Connell of Ireland.

Norma Nyiri studied nursing in England in the 1950s. She became a certified midwife and a Psychiatric nurse. After meeting her future husband, Norma left England to nurse in Chicago for a few years before spending the rest of her career at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener. During her tenure at St. Mary’s she worked on the delivery team in pediatrics, the IV team, and was the Infection Control nurse until her retirement. One of the highlights as Infection Control nurse was setting up universal precautions for the entire hospital during the onset of the Aids crisis. In her spare time, Norma was an avid gardener, creating outstanding displays of colour and beauty for the enjoyment of the village. She was a sharp-eyed bridge player and never met a crossword puzzle she couldn’t handle.

Norma’s family extends warmest thanks for the kindness and care extended by Nicolas and Norma’s neighbours. Their generosity means more than words can say.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, on Wednesday, June 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment in Molesworth Cemetery, Howick Township. Memorial donations to Molesworth Cemetery would be appreciated.
