Marie was born in Wallace Township on June 12, 1927 to Milton and Edna (Nuhn) Kress. She was a great-granddaughter of Conrad Nuhn and Johannes Nickel, two of the twelve men to sign the register for a Lutheran Church in April of 1864. It was at this church, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wallace Township, that Marie was baptized, confirmed, and married by Rev. R.B. Geelhaar. This was also the church where her children were baptized and confirmed, and the church where she was faithful and active member all of her life.

Marie and John were married on February 4, 1956. They enjoyed working together on their farm and in their business, “Kraus Welding and Machine Shop”. Marie was blessed to enjoy many family gatherings, birthday parties, and anniversary celebrations in Canada, Germany, and Switzerland. She loved babysitting her grandchildren, and watching their soccer, hockey, and broomball games, and attending their graduations. She and John enjoyed their work, dancing, and many bus tours together.
