Obituary for Harry Purcell

Harry Purcell ~ At Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday, April 1, 2019, Mr. Harry Gordon Purcell of Listowel, in his 92nd year.

Beloved husband of the late Vola Purcell. Father of Lorraine Brownell of Listowel, Carol and Edgar Carreira of Geraldton, Janice and Neil Hackbart of Mount Forest, Brian and Beth Purcell, and David and Marilyn Purcell, all of R.R.3, Listowel.

Grandfather of Robert and Jennifer Brownell, Jason Brownell and Crystal Waite, Kevin and Jessica Carreira, Gary and Ashton Carreira, and Scott and Christina Carreira, Adam and Christin Hackbart, Andrew and Christine Hackbart, Josh, Karli, and Ethan Purcell, and Erik and Claire Purcell.

Great-grandfather of Owen, Sam, Bryce, Ben, Kyla, Tanner, Layla, Thea, Tenley, Dylan, Lincoln, Daxton, Blake, and Brielle.

Brother-in-law of Paul Bristowe of R.R.1, Listowel, and Dale Steenson of Toronto.

Predeceased by his son Allan Purcell (1986), brother Morris Purcell and his wife Ina, sister Ruth Bristowe, and by his brother-in-law Erlin Steenson and his wife Joyce.

Throughout his 91 years, Harry loved to spend time in the company of his family and friends. On September 13, 1952, he married Vola and they lived on Concession 2 of Wallace Township until 1990. Harry had many hobbies, including gardening, carpentry, snowmobiling, playing cards, and square dance calling.

He loved farming, and even after his retirement, he continued to drive tractors and help wherever needed. He shared his interest in antique International tractors by proudly passing them on to his grandchildren. Harry was always ready with a joke or a story to entertain his listeners, and his friendly personality made him a favorite at social gatherings.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel on Friday, April 5th at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Don McCallum officiating.

Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
