Obituary for Bill Woods

Charles William (Bill) Woods
March 20, 1942-April 23, 2020
“There is no such thing as luck; it’s when preparedness meets opportunity”.

Celebrations for a life well lived are taking place for Charles William (Bill) Woods of Listowel, who succumbed to a courageous battle with chronic illness, on Thursday, April 23, 2020, in his 79th year.

Bill was proud of his roots growing up on a farm east of Mount Forest with his two brothers and sister. Any project in which he engaged was done meticulously and with great thought whether it was working at Ideal Supply as the Electrical-Industrial Sales Manager, strategizing to win numerous curling competitions, creating a woodworking masterpiece, tenderizing a steak or serving as chair of the new Steve Kerr Arena Building committee.

Service to his community was a defining feature of his personality as he was instrumental in getting the first Listowel Daycare built, was a Co-chair for the building of the Clocktower, and Chair of Maitland Terrace. He was a member of the Mount Forest Kinsmen and the Listowel K-40 service clubs. Every election at every level of government, Bill was seen nailing down signs, working in committee rooms and handing out information. Bill was a lifetime member of the United Church of Canada.

A dedicated employee of Ideal supply for 41 years, he took pride in mentoring young employees, even meeting regularly with them after his retirement. During these years, he enjoyed many games of golf and billiard with his buddies.

His steadfast commitment was to his family both his immediate family and his siblings and their families. Bill was proud of the education, accomplishments and careers of his sons, Randy and Jeff and he extended his fatherly interests to all their friends on the Boys Weekends at the family cottage south of North Bay. As was Bill’s talent, he took a fix-er upper property (with Shirley in tow as assistant) and engineered it to become a beautiful resort retreat.

Bill will be greatly missed by his right-hand gal, Shirley (Holliday), who was married to him for almost 55 years, his sons Randy (Kelly Judge) and Jeff (Kim Kristensten), his step-grandchildren Taylor and Spencer Caldwell, his siblings Frances Busey (Shel), Ronald Woods (Brenda) and Herbert Woods (Barbara), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and a lifetime of great friends.

A private family funeral service will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, on Monday April 27th at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Bonnie Holliday officiating. Friends and family are invited to join the family virtually through a live stream service at https://youtu.be/nfv-1St48lw
