Charlie was born January 27,1928 in Listowel and lived most of his life as a farmer, on the Corry homestead near Britton. He remained engaged in farming at heart after retiring to Listowel. Keeping track of local crops, the weather, the progress of harvest and current events of the world kept his mind sharp. He loved music, his church and his family. He sang in choirs most of his life, enjoyed singing with his Junior Farmer Quartet and entertained with Ethel in retirement homes for over 20 years.
He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel where he served as an elder for 45 years and was named an Elder Emeritus in 2017. He had a keen interest in meeting people, with a genuine curiosity in wanting to know where they were from and what they worked at. His sharp but kind wit remained strong through his final days. Charlie had a sincere interest in the history of Elma Township and coined the title of the history book, “The Elmanac”.
He was the epitome of a gentleman, who encouraged his children and grandchildren to be curious, to travel, to learn, to work hard and to embrace life with optimism. He expressed his love in deeds more than by words, but there was never a doubt you were loved by him.

The Farmer's Creed
By Frank Mann
I believe a man’s greatest possession is his dignity and that no calling bestows this more abundantly than farming.
I believe hard work and honest sweat are the building blocks of a person’s character.
I believe that farmers, despite its hardships and disappointments is the most honest and honorable way a man can spend his days on earth.
I believe my children are learning values that will last a lifetime and can be earned no other way.
I believe farming provides education for life and that no other occupation teaches so much about birth, growth and maturity in such a variety of ways.
I believe many of the best things in life are indeed free: the splendor of a sunrise, the rapture of wide open spaces, and the exhilarating sight of your land greening each spring.
I believe true happiness comes in watching your crops ripen in the field, your children grow tall in the sun, and your whole family feel the pride that springs from their shared experience.
I believe that by my toil I am giving more to the world than I am taking from it, an honor that does not come to all men.
I believe my life will be measured ultimately by what I have done for my fellow man, and by this standard I fear no judgment.
I believe when a man grows old and sums up his days, he should be able to stand tall and feel pride in the life he’s lived.
I believe in farming because it makes all this possible.
