Obituary for Darlene Bruce

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our amazing wife, mother and grandmother, Darlene Joyce Bruce on Monday, July 25, 2022 in Listowel, Ontario at the age of 74 after a brief but incredibly brave battle with a brain tumour.
Beloved wife of David Robert Bruce and dear mother to Renná (Mike) Bruce Paonne of Guelph and Randy (Kirsten) Bruce of Oshawa. Predeceased by her parents Olga and Carl Augustson, sister Carol, brothers Ricky and Melvin and survived by brothers Lloyd, Maurice (Holly), Ken and sister-in-law Terry, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
"Gigi" will always hold a special place in the hearts of her five grandchildren; Steven, Matthew, Rowan, Callum and Euan.
Darlene's love, laughter, generosity and kindness will be missed by all those who knew her. She had a smile that could light up any room and instantly put others at ease. She was the kind of person who always wanted to help others. She was generous with her time, thoughtful with her responses and always tried to make others feel special.
Darlene liked to spoil those she loved and she donated regularly to a number of charities, particularly those that served to help children and families. She was a lover of books, carnations and teddy bears and enjoyed time with her family and friends but her heart was always fiercely anchored to the love of her life, Dave.
Married for 55 years, she was proud to support Dave through 30 years of military service. She and Dave worked as a team through every aspect of their lives. They travelled and had many wonderful experiences together, including trips of a lifetime to Bermuda and Sweden as well as camping in the mountains of B.C.
She had an adventurous spirit and was not afraid to try new things, especially with Dave by her side. She even got behind the wheel of Dave’s stock car and raced in a powder puff derby.
We will always be eternally grateful for the time we have had, the laughter and love we have shared and memories with her that we get to call our own.
At Darlene's request, there will not be a funeral service. Memorial donations to the Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated, and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
Thank you to the very caring Dr. Cameron, Adrianna and the team at Listowel Memorial Hospital, Care Partners and the Dale Brain Institute for their guidance and support through this truly heartbreaking time.
A special thanks to friends and family for the calls, flowers, care, concern and support. She loved you all.
