Obituary for Harry Berfelz
Harold Frederick ‘Harry’ Berfelz passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, his 89th year.
Father of Lynne & Lash Thomas, and Julia Berfelz, all of Kitchener Waterloo, grandfather of Sadie, Tristan, and Madelyn, and great-grandfather of Omarion.
Loved by his brothers George Berfelz, Stan Berfelz, and Carl & Gloria Berfelz, all of Listowel, and Roy Berfelz & Terry Schaefer of New Hamburg, and their families.
Predeceased by his brother Lorne Berfelz, and sister-in-law Wenda Berfelz.
Harry was born and raised in Wallace Township, the son of the late Paul & Edna (Yungblut) Berfelz. In his younger days, he was a champion rally car driver and car enthusiast. Harry enjoyed a wonderful career as a special education teacher at Forest Heights Collegiate and Jacob Hespeler High School. In his retirement, Harry was fortunate to embark on a sailing adventure which took him from Ontario to The Caribbean. He was an integral part of the sailing community, racing in Antigua Race Week, and in The Dark and Stormy and Sweethearts of the Caribbean races in The B.V.I.
Harry’s family is extremely grateful for the compassionate and professional care he received from everyone at Listowel Memorial Hospital and his Home Care Team.
A Celebration of Harry’s life will be held at Parkview Gardens (Listowel Legion) on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Memorial donations to K-W Habilitation, or Doctors Without Borders, would be appreciated, and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
