Obituary for John Baker

John Charles Baker of Listowel, and formerly of Fordwich, passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 13, 2021, in his 88th year.

Loving husband of the late M. Isabell (McCann) Baker.

John will be sadly missed by his children John of Guelph, Jeff and Barb of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Jamie and Yolanda of Barrie, and Joel and Chantelle of Harriston.

Also loved by his grandchildren Jami (Sandy), Jaclyn (Eric), Jennifer (Shawn), Brady (Sara), Laura (Dave), Colin (Cassie) and numerous great grandchildren.

Brother-in-law of Bruce Ament of Listowel, Margaret and Jim Renwick of Belmore, and Shirley McCann of Palmerston, and remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

John was born on December 8, 1934, the only child of Thomas and Arlyle (Bamford) Baker. As a teenager, he became well known for his baseball talent with the Listowel Legionnaires as a left-handed pitcher, known for throwing the dreaded knuckleball. In October 1957, he married the love of his life, to which they had four boys. John loved to laugh and was known for his quick whit. He worked his entire career at Ideal Supply, and even after retirement spoke like he still worked there. He always was an avid sports fan, as rarely did he miss a Blue Jays game, no matter what was going on in the world. He will also be remembered for his avid lawncare skills, as many had felt John missed his true calling in life, as he spent hours-on-end mowing his lawn. He kept it like a putting green!

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, on Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. You must schedule a time to attend by clicking RSVP below, or by calling 519-291-4840. Everyone attending must wear a mask.

Private family service will be held with interment Fordwich Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
