Margaret Helen (Hamilton) Blackmore of Listowel, passed away at Fordwich Village Nursing Home on Thursday, August 13, 2020, in her 87th year.

Marg was born and raised in Palmerston, Ontario, where she graduated from Norwell District Secondary School as class valedictorian. After a brief career working for Bell Telephone in Toronto, she married Tom Blackmore and the couple settled in Listowel, where she resided for the rest of her life. She and Tom would be celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary on October 23rd of this year.

Marg was a devoted mother to her two sons, David and Mark. She worked as secretary/receptionist for the Listowel Police Department for many years. She later opened her own store, “Marg’s New to You” Consignment and Maternity Wear. She was the “behind the scenes” support for Tom during his 34 years as Volunteer Fire Chief for the town of Listowel. Marg served her community as a dedicated volunteer. She was a member of the Listowel Homecoming Committee and helped organize the celebrations in 1992. She had great love for the elderly, and she ran the exercise program at Livingstone Manor for 20 years.

Marg was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a loyal friend to so many. She was part of the “coffee girls” who met daily at local coffee shops. She was known for her sense of style, her love of singing and music, her sense of humour and her beautiful smile that would light up a room.

The family would like to thank the staff at Caressant Care Retirement Home in Listowel, and the Fordwich Village Nursing Home for your kind and compassion care of Marg in the latter years of her life.

She is survived by her husband Tom Blackmore, her children, David and Shelley Blackmore of Wroxeter, and Mark Blackmore and Jody Davey of Craighurst, her grandchildren, Ben and Rochelle Blackmore and Josh and Stephanie Blackmore of Gorrie, Amy Dicks and Zlatko Depikolozvane of Toronto, Christine Blackmore and Mark Horyn of Mississauga, Stephanie Blackmore and Josh Wilks of Toronto, Elliott and Kathleen Blackmore of Wainwright, Alberta, Matthew Davey and Brett Davey of Barrie, and her great-grandchildren, Malina, Hunter, Boyd and Jayden. She was the beloved aunt of Cara and Jon Nye of Scarborough, and Meagan Daley and Marc Parent of Quebec City.

She was predeceased by her parents, Marie (McBain) and George Hamilton, her parents-in-law, Ina (Frisby) and Glen Blackmore, her sister Donna Dickson, her brothers-in-law, Tom Daley and Doug Dickson, and her nephew, Shawn Daley.

A private family funeral will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Tuesday, August 18th at 11:00 a.m., the Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating.

To the Blackmore family - Kerry and I send our sincerest condolences to you on the passing of a lovely and stylish lady, Margaret. We certainly know her from earlier times in Listowel but more recently i had the pleasure of caring for her at Fordwich Village Nursing Home. She was always a delight and had a smile and a tune! May she rest in peace.

I’ve known Marg all my life; from childhood through adulthood as she, Mom, Barb and June and other Listowel moms like Shirley, Colleen and Evelyn were tight-knit and always laughing.
Sharp and smart, fun and funny, Marg was a big reason for the hilarity and she will be missed by me, along with everyone else on this wall that were fortunate enough to have known her.
