Obituary for Mary Queen

Mary Margaret (Cook) Queen of Mount Forest, and formerly of Wileville, Nova Scotia, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Guelph, on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at the age of 84 years.

Wife of the late Garrett 'Gerry' Mensinga (2005). Mary is remembered by her family, Laura (Richard) Fancey, Lisa (Chris) Mahaney, Nancy Lee Murphy, Bettyann (Ian) Christie, Joanne (Doug) Spek, Geraldine (Adrian) Spek, and Ruth Mensinga, and their families, her sister Agnes Helen (Nancy) Tormey, and by her many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her brother Norman William Cook, sister Jean Elizabeth Ward, and stepson Robert Mensinga.

Mary was born in Toronto, Ontario, on April 19, 1937, the daughter of the late James William and Agnes (Thompson) Cook. She grew up in Ontario and worked at a number of jobs, including selling real estate in the Toronto area. After the death of her husband, Gerry, she moved to Nova Scotia with her dog Katie.

Mary loved animals and enjoyed many road trips with Katie. She loved to knit, play cards, go bowling, and meet with her coffee buddies at the local McDonald’s. Mary loved to travel and spend her winter in Mexico. She was a real ‘people person’ and made friends wherever she went.

A graveside funeral service will be held at Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. John Lambshead officiating.

Memorial donations to Huron-Perth Humane Society, or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated, and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
