Obituary for Nettie Vyse

Venetta Violet 'Nettie' (nee Kaplanis) Vyse of Listowel passed away peacefully at Livingstone Manor, Listowel on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 in her 90th year.

Beloved wife of the late William Vyse (1988). Dearest mother of Chris Vyse and Ellen Briant of Toronto, Matthew Vyse and Jean Morris of Calgary, and Jennifer and Bill Scott of Ilderton. Cherished grandmother of Abigail Scott, Hailey Scott, William Vyse, and Ian Vyse.

Fondly remembered by Sister-in-law Pat Kaplanis of Windsor and Marlene Kaplanis of St. Thomas. Forever missed by many nieces, nephews, and their families. Predeceased by brothers John Kaplanis and Jim Kaplanis, and sisters Penelope Thornicroft, Dean (Neil) McLaren, and Barbara (Lyall) Howlett.

Nettie was born in Fort William, Ontario on February 2nd, 1931. In 1953, she trained as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital, London. In 1954, she received her Certificate in Public Health from the University of Western Ontario and began work as a public health nurse with the VON in Toronto.

In 1956, she married Bill Vyse and moved to Listowel. She continued to work in public health, and later at the Listowel Memorial Hospital. In 1966, she began her many years as a caring and dedicated nurse at the Listowel Clinic, retiring in 2001.

Nettie was an active volunteer with the Listowel Horticultural Society, enjoyed many day trips with the Listowel Seniors, and was a long-time member of Trinity United Church, Listowel.

Special thank you to Dr. Barb Matthews for her many years of care and friendship. Much appreciation to Catherine, Heather, and all of the amazing staff at Livingstone Manor for their exceptional care.

Visitation will be held at Trinity United Church, Listowel on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. where the funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, visitors must schedule a time to attend either the visitation or the funeral on the funeral home website by selecting one of the RSVP options below, or by calling the funeral home at 519-291-4840. Everyone attending must wear a mask.
