Obituary for Shirley Judge

Shirley (Beaton) Judge ~ Celebrations in Heaven are taking place for Shirley, who succumbed to a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Listowel Memorial Hospital, at the age of 75.

Grounded by her childhood rearing on the Beaton farm in Glenelg Township near Durham, Ontario, she joyously infected the Listowel community with her love and care for her whole adult life.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy & Keith Beaton.

She will be fondly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Vincent of Listowel, daughter Kelly (Randy Woods), sons John (Jennifer Corry), Gregory (Juliane Jaimieson) and kept alive through the memories of all seven Grandchildren: Taylor, Spencer, Jaydn, Ella, Alivia, Amber and Austin.

She will also be missed by her siblings Betty-Lou Morrison (Dave), Gloria Morris (Ben), Mary Wyma (Steve) and Bruce Beaton along with her many nieces, nephews and steadfast friends.

Shirley loved children and found joy being surrounded by them as a Kindergarten teacher, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher… basically volunteering at her beloved Baptist Church for any event, endeavour or committee involving children or music. She served on the worship team, sang solos & duets, lead Cantatas and was the organist for over 30 years. In her broader community she continued to sing with “The Beaton Sisters”, was a trained speaker for Christian Women’s Clubs all over the country also serving for six years on their National Board. She was awarded honourary member of the Baptist Women’s Association of Ontario & Quebec, led many Bible studies and positivity contributed to the social fabric of the greater Listowel area. She was the one truly responsible for the success of many politicians including her husband Vince. Humble, unassuming Shirley would be embarrassed if we continued to list her accomplishments and community service.

Amongst our sadness emerges abundance. She taught us all to listen, to love books, to sing, to ease the suffering of others, to be kind and understanding, to empathize and to love animals and nature. A lifelong learner, Shirley gently encouraged all to achieve their potential; she believed in you until you could believe in yourself.

Visitation will be held at Listowel Baptist Church on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00-9:00. A funeral service of celebration and song will be held at the Listowel Baptist Church led by Rev. John Lambshead on Saturday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. Spring interment in McNeil Cemetery, Priceville.

The Judge Family would like to thank all the visiting Nurses, PSWs and friends whose time, care and talents gifted Shirley a long stay in her home. Thanks also to the Eaton Funeral home, Rev. John Lambshead, Dr. Weston, hospital staff, the church family and friends for their support.

If desired, donations to Listowel Baptist Church Building Fund, the Listowel Hospital Foundation and the Canadian Arthritis Society would honour the life of Shirley Judge, and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
