Obituary for Starr Ferris

Starr Ruth (Wombwell) Ferris of Kitchener passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 12, 2022, in her 72nd year.

Wife of Ron. Mother of Chelsea & Chris Haskell of Kitchener, and Grammie of Paige and Evelyn.

Sister of Melody & Ken Bailey of Listowel, and Art & Jan Wombwell of Fordwich.

Predeceased by her parents Arthur & Ruth (Howes) Wombwell.

Starr lived an extraordinary life. She lived the way a Christian is called to live, connecting with all she met, and reflecting the love of her Lord through a smile or a word. Her love was an unconditional love, a welcoming love, and a love that knew no bounds. If you are reading this, you have probably experienced it.

Simplicity was her watchword. A cup of tea, good conversation, phone calls to keep in touch with friends, a drive in the country, and family gathered around her, Oh, and quilting… Of all the many metaphors for Starr’s life, maybe this is the most enduring, Life as a quilt. Put together bit by bit, using rather ordinary materials, yet the whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. And in the end, it tells a beautiful story. Starr made quilts and gave them away with as much love as she created them. They stand as testimony to her life, an autobiography in cloth and thread. Quilts guarantee a connection across the years and even across the passage into death. Every quilt evokes its maker, suggests her presence even if she is ultimately absent. Ii is not just the quilt that endures. The quilter, too, outlasts the constraints of time.
