Obituary for Willy Knapp

William Howard Daniel ‘Willy’ Knapp of R.R.2, Palmerston passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, in his 70th year.

Husband of Nancy (Litt) Knapp. Loved by his stepdaughter Crystal & Stefan Leutenegger and their son Caden.

Brother of Ken & Darlene Knapp of Listowel, and brother-in-law of Leora Knapp of Listowel, Larry Litt of Woodstock, Joan & Bob Clarke of Gorrie, Bob & Marie Litt of Seaforth, and Dianne Scheerer & Keith Arnold of Rostock. Willy will be remembered by his many friends, nieces, and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Norman & Helen (Spies) Knapp, brother Robert Knapp, and his stepson Jeff Craig.

Willy liked living life to the fullest. He had an early love of music with his first band starting in public school as a base guitarist. Willy played in many bands including the Coach House Band, the Gregg Dechert Band and the Breakwater Blues Band. He expanded this interest by founding the first music studio in downtown Listowel, the Canada Sound Recording Studio. It became a popular spot for local talent and friends to create and record music. He was very proud of this studio and the music that was created there.

He vacationed during the summer at his trailer in Sauble Beach. Upon retiring from the family’s stores, he helped Nancy start her new greenhouse business. Later he launched Countryview Farms Helicopter Air Services, offering crop spraying services or chartered flights.

Winter vacations were spent in the Dominican Republic. The growing friendships, the culture, and the warm tropical climate enticed Willy and Nancy to spend more and more vacation time there. Liking it so much, they were married in the DR, and later would spend the winters there, with their dog Winston.

With travelling restrictions due to Covid, Willy became interested in collecting antique cars and hot rods. His dog Sophie would accompany Willy and Nancy around the local area.

He will be missed dearly by his wife Nancy, stepdaughter Crystal, her husband Stefan and grandson Caden, and many friends and family near and far.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
