I am Doris' niece.  Heather and Joan are my first cousins.  When my late husband and I were at Heather's place for a family dinner about 10 years ago, Doris looked over at Heather's small framed pictures and said "those are my jewels".  She was referring to a photo of Heather and Joan together as adults.  Doris was saying that her daughters were her jewels -- very precious.
