Violet Smith ~ peacefully, at Spruce Lodge, Stratford on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, Mrs. Violet (Ritchie) Smith, formerly of Molesworth and Listowel, in her 91st year. Beloved wife of Jim Smith. Dear mother of Margaret and Dick Richmond of Waterloo, Jean Bodnarchuk of Brights Grove, Bob and Angie Smith of Sudbury, and Bill Smith of Stratford. Grandmother of Mike Richmond of Kitchener, Heather Richmond of London, and Renee Smith of Sudbury. Sister of Daisy Wall of Wingham and Elsie Irwin of Ridgetown, and sister-in-law of Madeline Ritchie of Goderich, Betty Ritchie of Lucknow, Wallace McKee of Atwood, and Eileen Nethercott of Listowel.
Predeceased by her sisters Clara Raynard and Jean Papernick, and her brothers Harvey and Eldon Ritchie.
Violet graduated from Normal School (Teacher's College) in Stratford in 1939. She taught at Duke School in Grey Township from 1939 until 1946, when she married Jim Smith. They farmed near Molesworth, and moved to Listowel in 1996. Violet was a long-time member of the Women's Institute and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Molesworth.
Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Friday, October 24th at 11:00 a.m. Reverend George Russell officiating. Interment in Molesworth Cemetery.
Memorial donations to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Molesworth would be appreciated.
