Obituary

Frances Johnston ~ At Caressant Care, Listowel, on Thursday, September 26, 2019, Mrs. Frances Lila (Turney) Johnston of Listowel, in her 89th year.

Wife of the late Lloyd Johnston (2017).

Mother of Sue and Paul Carson of Listowel, Barb and Daryl Smith of Kurtzville, Betty Johnston and Fred Fountain of Stratford, Ev and Mike Grosz of Listowel, Linda and Steve Grosz of Waterloo, and Connie Johnston and Brad Johns of R.R.1, Listowel.

Grandmother of Jonathan Carson and Robin, Rebecca Carson and Ryan, Sean Carson and Latasha, Sheena Carpenter and Scott, Cody Smith, Robin Johnston and Jenny, Jordan Grosz, Patrick Grosz and Abbie, Devin Grosz and Alana, Mitchell Grosz and Sam, Joshua Morrison and Tessa, Lucas Morrison and Shannon, great-grandmother of Andrew Johnston, Cadha and Beau Carpenter, Katie and Maddison Morrison, and step-grandmother of Jamie and Dylan Johns.

Sister of Ralph and Diana Turney of Listowel, and Lloyd Turney of Listowel.

Predeceased by her infant daughter Patricia, parents Archie and Florence (Ridsdale) Turney, sisters Freeda Cowan, Gladys Wheeler, and Olive Moore, and brothers Garnet (wife Marion), Emerson, and Howard Turney.

Fran's zest for life was evident in everything that she did.

She raised her 6 daughters, helped alongside her husband Lloyd with the family farm, and always kept it known that her home was open to anyone that needed a place to stay, food to eat, a job to do, and a caring ear for their troubles.

It was Fran's very strength and determination that directed her and Lloyd to grow their small family farm, on the 3rd of Wallace, into a successful dairy operation that provided for their family over many decades.
Fran and Lloyd were always ready to lend a helping hand to any neighbor in need. In turn, many of their neighbors were there in support to them, in their time of need also. This was the true Wallace Township Way. Fran was a former member of the True Blue Lodge, and a long standing member of the Wallace Township Goodwill Women's Institute.

Her life-long highlight was when she contributed her time to the compiling and creation of the
125th Wallace Township History Book. A lot of hard work, but that never scared her off. Fran loved to curl, listen to music, mow her many lawns, adore her flower beds, help Lloyd with field work by driving tractors, grow, harvest and delight in her many vegetable gardens.

Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was very evident in all the many pictures and albums thru-out her home. She will be truly missed, and fondly remembered by her family and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Monday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel, on Tuesday, October 1st at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to the Listowel Caressant Care Residents’ Council, Heart & Stroke Foundation, or Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated.

Our sincerest condolences to all of the Johnston girls and their families! We were next door neighbours to Lloyd and Franny when they moved into town. We heard many interesting stories of life on the farm, some of them quite humorous! Franny loved our visits back at the retirement home when we would take Zoey to see her. There were always pictures and updates of her grandchildren! From your arms to God's, Terry and Debbie Seiler
