Obituary

Verena ‘Vreny’ Rechsteiner
December 18, 1945 – May 10, 2020

Vreny was born in Frauenfeld, Switzerland, to Willy and Anna Nef-Kessler. Survived by her husband of 50 years, Albert, and her sons Andreas & Sandra Rechsteiner (Stephanie and Samira), and Thomas Rechsteiner (Sonja and Katja). Sister of Heidi Ammann, Willy & Eveline Nef, Ernst & Irma Nef, Werner & Astrid Nef, and Bea Grossenbacher. Godmother to Walter, Daniel, Sonja, Marcel, and Beat.

Vreny and Albert were married on September 5, 1969. Their son Andy was born on February 2, 1970, followed by Thomas on November 13, 1973. Living on a small farm by Elgg, Switzerland, Vreny worked in retail and then ran the milk collection station for 10 years while helping on the farm which consisted of cows, pigs, crops, and an apple orchard. On March 29, 1988, Vreny and Albert moved to their family to a dairy farm by Molesworth, Ontario, so their sons could have a future in farming.

She loved being a grandmother to her four girls. They were her pride and joy. She loved taking them to skating lessons, horseback riding, and even prom dress shopping. She was happy to prepare to go to horse and cattle shows, and always made sure lunches were packed.

Vreny enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting, and sewing. She was a member of a Volkdance group that she helped to found in Switzerland. For the last 20 years she was a member of the Thames Valley Swiss Choir and enjoyed her weekly practices with them.

Vreny also did a lot of travelling, whether back to her home country to visit family and friends, or going south to relax. She was lucky and able to enjoy one last trip to the Dominican Republic with Albert and their grandkids, Sonja and Katja, at the end of February.

She fought a short but painful battle with Lymphoma and will be greatly missed by all. If you keep her in your heart, she will always remain with us.

Private family arrangements have been entrusted to the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel with interment in Molesworth Cemetery.

Memorial donations to Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
