Obituary for George Basler

Bringing great sadness, George Patrick Basler passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener on Saturday, August 20, 2016, in his 78th year.

Beloved husband of Sharon (Hare) Basler of 52 years. Proud and loving father of Patrick Basler and Barb Colquhoun of Kitchener, Maureen and Roger LaHaie of London, Michael and Jennifer Basler of London, and Natalie and Shawn Core of Port Franks.

Grandfather of Mathew, Rachael and Courtney Basler, Leah and Avery LaHaie, Eric and Olivia Basler, and Joseph and Isabella Core.

Brother of Marie Linden of Listowel, Jackie Morrissey of Kitchener, John and Alice Basler of Elmira, and Tom Basler of` R.R. 3, Listowel, and brother-in-law of John Huck, and Diane Letson. Forever remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents John and Sarah (Tobin) Basler, sisters Theresa Basler, Eileen Huck, and Patricia Basler (in infancy), brother Jim Basler, brothers-in-law Jack Seiler, William Linden, Jack Morrissey, sister-in-law Sandy Basler, and niece Christine Seiler.

George's immense and enduring love for his family fueled his joy each day. He enjoyed his summers with his family at the cottage in Muskoka. He adored spending time with his grandchildren. George is known for sharing so many stories with everyone he met.

He was an active member in his Listowel community throughout the years being a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Knights of Columbus (charter member), Listowel Kinsmen and an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., with a Legion Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Listowel on Thursday, August 25th at 11:00 a.m.

Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Memorial donations to St. Joseph's Building Fund would be appreciated.
