After you......

Looking back at George’s life, there’s always been a dominant characteristic that stands out to me – his thoughtfulness. Whether it was sharing his toys or treats with his siblings as a child or cleaning off the snow from someone else’s car before his own as a young man, to ensuring that the entire family was engaged in events whenever possible as he grew up, George was always thinking of others before himself. Even near the end, when his health was failing and he was facing a life threatening operation, he still was putting others ahead of himself. In one of our last conversations he told me how he had just finalized arrangements to have our father J.J. Basler’s picture placed on a flag and placed in a prominent location in Listowel, as part of the upcoming Royal Canadian Legion’s anniversary celebration for local World War 1 and 2 veterans. He was very proud of “Daddy”and how he served his country. Likewise,  I am very proud of my brother George and how he served his fellow man. Your efforts did not go unnoticed George and they will certainly never be forgotten.   Love always , your sister Jackie.
